English of recent origin.  It was probably formed by an elision of Rhoda and Rhona but the similarity to the Rhonnda Valley area in south Wales has led to it being adopted as a Welsh name even though, in Wales, the pronounciation of -d- is quite different from that of -dd-.  There is a possible derivation from Welsh "good lance".
