Scottish. A correspondent [ES] reports an ancestor, named Isabella Turner, born in 1847 in Alford, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She was a friend of Charles Murray and is remembered with the pet name Isie in The Miller, one of the poems in Murray's book Hamewith.
This spelling of the pet name is believed to be particular to the area of Aberdeenshire. It is pronounced "eye-zee". |
