Many old documents and some later ones replaced the first five letters of Christopher with "X", the symbol for "Christ", to give Xtopher. In the older documents in Latin an ending -us was normally added, modified as a Latin case ending, giving Xtopherus and, occasionally, Christopherus. The spellings Christoverus/Xtoverus were also used.
