Notes: |
Scottish and English, from the Scottish surname, derived from Gaelic ros "headland" or "cape".
A correspondent [IP] has noted that in published versions of the parish records of Mull, Scotland, mistranscriptions of this name often occur with the first " s " in old script [a "long s"] interpreted as " f ", hence giving the apparent name Rofs. This would not be found by normal searching methods and should be considered, especially when accessing on-line indexes. |
