Notes: |
This mis-transcription for Alexr has been reported from Parish Records on the Isle of Mull, Scotland [MH]. There is also one male occurrence in the 1841 Census for Aberdeenshire, for someone born "outside the county".
While the Mull mis-read can be explained, it is interesting to note that Key could be derived from Eckie a more common nick-name for Alexander but this might be fanciful! However the occurrence of this "odd" name "change" shows the need to be very careful when searching old records and the modern indexes to them. |
