Dorian (male)

Variants:Doron (M)
Feminine form:Dorean (F) Doria (F) Dorian (F) Doris (F)

Source(s): The Oxford Names Companion, OUP
Notes:

?English. Dorian was a previously unknown male name used by Oscar Wilde in The Picture of Dorian Gray (serialised in 1890/1).

ONC suggests that Wilde probably derived the name from the Latin Dorianus which referred to people from the Peloponnese in ancient Greece. Consequently Dorian can be considered as a male equivalent of Doris which has essentially the same meaning.
