Notes:

English. Originally a male name, derived from the Latin Carolus, the fore-runner of Charles, Carol is now more commonly used as a female forename.

It is especially favoured for children born on December 25th, Christmas Day, as are Noël for boys, Natalie and Carole for girls and Christmas for either.

In old documents in Latin, Carol is rendered as Carolus. Search on Carol* to allow for Latin case endings.
