English spelling variant of Rosamund, from Old German "horse" + "protection".  It  has also been suggested [ONC] that the meaning may be from Latin "pure rose" but this is uncertain.

In old documents in Latin, the form Rosamunda was used, with appropriate case endings, for Rosamund/Rosamond.
