Norma (F)>

Norma (female)

Variants:Mona (F) Nora (F) Normanna (F) Normina (F)
Derivative(s):Nornie (F)
Masculine form:Norman (M)

Source(s): The Oxford Names Companion, OUP
Notes:

Apparently invented by Felice Romani for the libretto for Bellini's opera "Norma" in the 1830s, it has come to be used as the feminine form of Norman.

It is just possible that the name was taken from the Latin norma, meaning "rule, standard".
