English of unknown origin.
A correspondent [SE] has traced seveal female members of the family named Milborough back to births in Middlesex, England in the early to mid 19th century, although other cases are recorded around the same time and earlier in Ireland.
Stoke St Milborough is a parish in Shropshire, England. The parish church is dedicated to St Milburgha. She was Abbess of Wenlock monastery in the 8th century, and it is from her that the parish takes its name. It is possible that the use of the forename Milborough is in honour of St Milburgha. |
