Notes:	English. Margery was a Medieval variant of Margaret [q.v.]. The spelling Marjorie is the usual one in England and Marjory is more popular in Scotland, as borne out by the 1841 Census of Aberdeenshire. However Margery also occurs in both countries. A private correspondent [AB] suggests May as a pet name for Marjory, Margery, Marjorie and Molly.
