Notes: |
English, from Latin "honoured, renowned", a variant of Honoria probably by reference to the French form, Honore.
A correspondent [JF2] reports Honora being used for Hannah in some Irish records. This is possibly a further modification of Hannoria, a Latin form of Hannah used in some old documents.
An Australian corespondent [DN] notes an ancestor christened Honora in Ireland was known as Oiny. This is a unique pet name, as far as we know, but was used on official documentation. |
